Detroit Housing Commission and IMC welcome first family to new HOPE VI community at ribbon-cutting ceremony

Detroit, MI September 2, 2009— U.S. Housing and Urban Development Assistant Secretary Sandra Henriquez joins Detroit Mayor David Bing, Congressman John Conyers, and Detroit Housing Commission Executive Director Eugene E. Jones at an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome the first family, The Ely’s, to the new Gardenview Estates, an 833-unit mixed-income development that stands at the site of the former Herman Gardens public housing development.

“Today is about so much more than opening new homes. It is about opening the doors of opportunity and pride for the families who will grow and thrive here for generations to come,” said Sandra Henriquez.

DHC requires that public housing residents enroll in the agency’s Community and Supportive Services Program (CSSP) managed by IMC Consulting.  As the Program Management team, IMC designed and developed the CSS program to include employment preparation, and personal and professional development workshops. IMC assisted former Herman Gardens residents realize a promise fulfilled as they begin to occupy their new homes in Gardenview Estates.

IMC assisted DHC in not only putting the CSS program where it should be in servicing the residents.  They have exceeded many of the bench marks requested and are always willing to go the extra mile particularly in crunch time.  A job exceptionally well done.”  Seana Page, Contract Administrator CSSP, Detroit Housing Commission.

“Gardenview Estates gave us the opportunity to rethink public housing in the City of Detroit, and that’s exactly what we did. We’re proud of this development and what it represents for the city. It truly is a new beginning for Detroit and for its residents,” said Eugene Jones.
